Trainer Doug O’Neill admitted he sounds like a broken record at this point in the week, repeatedly saying he’s pleased with his frontrunner Nyquist’s workouts.

After Nyquist jogged two miles at Pimlico Race Course on Wednesday morning, O’Neill again said the horse’s energy impressed him as Nyquist prepares to try for a ninth straight victory Saturday.

“He looked great, and we’re just looking for him to continue what he’s been doing here since he’s been in Baltimore — keep his appetite up, stay injury-free and stay loose,” O’Neill said.

Nyquist was shipped to Pimlico on May 9 — just two days after the Kentucky Derby — and has trained well since then, according to O’Neill. He’s scheduled to gallop Thursday morning.

“We’re trying to soak it all up, slow it down and enjoy every bit of it,” O’Neill said. “But there are times where you kind of want to fast forward to Friday and Saturday, just because when they’re doing that good, you’re like, ‘Let’s run, let’s run right now.'”
