More than 50 dogs and their owners walked in 40 degree temperatures during the annual Gorton’s Dog Day parade in Lake Forest on May 14.

Most owners dressed their dogs in costume, said Sarah Georgi, who co-chaired the event with Cathy McGowan.

“The winner of the best costume was a whole family,” Georgi said. “They dressed their dog as a hot dog and they were hot dog vendors. There were also (dog) ballerinas, dogs dressed up as the Fighting Irish. One little boy was dressed as Santa and his dog was dressed like an elf. One dog and owner were both dressed up like prisoners.”

The event also featured a mariachi band, pet rescue and adoption groups and pet experts along with doughnuts and coffee for those in need of a warm up.
