Sebastian Inlet State Park is located 10 miles south of Melbourne Beach and 6 miles north of Vero Beach.
Established in 1970, the inlet is highly known for its abundance in saltwater fishing but there is also an excellent campground for RVs and tents along the a 3-mile stretch on the Indian River Lagoon.
Many campers enjoy surfing, hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and canoeing. Boat ramps are abundant for you boaters. The inlet offers two museums that highlight the history of the Treasure Coast.
The McLarty Treasure Museum features the history of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet and the Sebastian Fishing Museum tells the history of the area’s fishing industry. Hikers can enjoy the great Florida wildlife on a mile-long trek called Hammock Trail. Several surf and fishing competitions are held at the inlet each year. You don’t want to miss the visitor center that offers many unique items you’d expect like shells, treasure maps, historical items and more.
The campsites are a popular draw year-round, and it’s advisable to make a reservation ahead of time, as many riverside campsites are reserved well in advance. The inlet also has a great recreational area for family reunions, meetings and retreats that include many amenities such as concessions, playgrounds and shower facilities. Most areas are also wheelchair and bicycle friendly.
The Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park (FSISP) is an organization that supports the park. FSISP works to enhance, protect, and promote it and its sister parks. FSIP has improved the park through projects such as a new observation deck installation, a gazebo that overlooks the jetty and beach, as well as hosting events like live concerts.
