The forum, which will include remarks from doctors, addiction specialists and relatives of those impacted by opiate and heroin addiction and overdoses, is sponsored by Live4Lali, an opioid awareness and prevention group that has been instrumental in legislative drug-abuse prevention and reform efforts in Illinois.
The event, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the Buffalo Grove Park District’s Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road.
According to Stuart Kessler, director of community education for Live4Lali, panelists will include Dr. Adam Rubinstein, who will discuss prescription medications as they relate to abuse and addiction and sometimes heroin use; Chelsea Laliberte, founder of Live4Lali and a co-founder of the Lake County Opioid Initiative; relatives of those who have succumbed to overdoses; and a former user currently in recovery.
The forum is the first in a four-part series, with the other forums scheduled to take place this fall. Future sessions will include “Part II: Legal Aspects,” “Part III: Family Impact,” and “Part IV: Treatments and Resources.”
Kessler said Live4Lali seeks to educate all communities about drug use and addiction, and to combat the stigma associated with the illness and make recovery available to all.
