Buffalo Grove will lose 81 jobs by October, after Assembled Products closes its doors.

Founded in 1919, the manufacturer will fall just short of the century mark when its parent company, Jason Inc., ends production in October, company officials confirmed. Melissa Zona, a Jason spokeswoman, said too many of AP’s clients had found ways to replicate AP’s work in their own facilities.

“We made the decision to cease operations and exit the facility by the end of 2016,” she said.

According to its website, Assembled builds mechanical parts meant for close-quarters work (wire-form components, stampings and such) and, as the name implies, can make complete assemblies. Its headquarters has been at 300 Hastings Drive, with manufacturing in China and elsewhere in North America; Jason is headquartered in Milwaukee.

Another Jason property, the Libertyville-based Metalex, will continue its operations, Zona said.

The Assembled Products Buffalo Grove facility will take and send its last shipments this fall before closing for good.

Chris Stilling, Buffalo Grove Village Hall’s community development director, said that what will become of the building is undetermined at the moment. Hamilton Partners owns the property, which is in the Chevy Chase complex, and Stilling said it will retain its industrial zoning.

“It’s really unfortunate,” he said.

“But there’s no other vacancies in that complex, and it’s a strong area, so we’re confident that it will fill back up again soon,” he added.

According to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, layoffs at AP begin on May 15, and should finish by Oct. 1. Zona said Jason would have all its remaining property removed from the building by the end of the year.
