A Homer Township couple found dead in their home Saturday after an apparent murder-suicide had been involved in foreclosure proceedings on their home in Will County court, records show.
Will County sheriff’s deputies found the husband and wife, identified as Steven and Mary Siano, dead Saturday in their home in the 16900 block of Meadowcrest Drive. According to the Will County Coroner’s Office, preliminary findings show Mary Siano, 54, suffered a single gunshot wound to her back and Steven Siano, 56, had a single gunshot wound to the head.
“Evidence at the scene appears (to show) that he is the one that shot her, and then turned the gun on himself,” Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Rick Ackerson said.
The couple’s two adult children, who lived in the same home, heard their parents arguing and then gunshots, Ackerson said. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the home.
Neighbors living less than a block from the Siano’s home in the quiet Meadowcrest subdivision said ambulances were called to the couple’s house several times over the past year.

Mary Siano suffered from a chronic medical condition that left her in constant pain, neighbors said. At least one of the couple’s adult daughters had moved back home to help with her ailing mother, neighbors said.
Attempts to reach the couple’s adult children and other members of the Siano family Monday were unsuccessful.
One neighbor, who asked that she only be identified as Nancy, said the Sianos had built the home and lived there since the early 1990s.
Steven Siano ran a trucking business, Siano Trucking Services, out of the family home, neighbors said.
According to court documents, the couple owed $223,354 on the mortgage to their home. The Bank of New York began foreclosure proceedings against the couple in October. The couple was due in court just two days before the shooting for a foreclosure mediation hearing. It was unclear from court records whether they appeared in court last week for that hearing.
Court records indicate the couple did not have an attorney representing them on the foreclosure case. They were due back in court on May 12 for another foreclosure mediation hearing.
Another foreclosure case was filed against the couple in 2008, at the time showing $228,826 was owed on the home, but it was later dismissed.

Court documents also showed a judgment entered against Mary Siano for failing to pay federal taxes in the amount of $23,215. Judgments also were entered against the couple in 2011 for hospital bills totaling about $74,000 from Silver Cross Hospital.
In the cases involving Silver Cross, court records show the couple routinely missed court hearings.
