Police are warning residents in the Albany Park and West Rogers Park neighborhoods of two separate child-luring incidents that have occurred in the area over the past week and a half.
In the latest incident, a girl was walking home from Roosevelt High School about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a white Jeep pulled up alongside the curb next to her in the 4500 block of North St. Louis Avenue in Albany Park, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.
An unknown male driver of the Jeep honked and motioned to the girl through the passenger side to come over to the car, the release said.
The girl ignored the driver’s request and kept walking away, which angered the man. The man continued to honk at her and follow her for another block, scaring the girl for her safety.
The girl walked into a store in the 3500 block of West Montrose Avenue, where police were called. The driver waited outside the store for a few minutes before fleeing west on Montrose, according to the release.
The driver is described as a Hispanic man who is 40 to 45 years old. He was bald and was driving a white Jeep of an unknown model, according to the release.
The second child-luring incident happened about 6:35 p.m. April 20 in the 6700 block of North Whipple Street near Chippewa Park in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, according to a police news release.
Two juveniles walked past Chippewa Park to retrieve a dodge ball that was between fences when an unknown woman sitting in the passenger seat of a nearby black SUV-type vehicle rolled down her window, according to the release.
She said, “Hi kids. Come over here. I have some candy.” A man was sitting in the driver’s seat of the car, the release said.
The two juveniles, whose genders and ages were not available, got alarmed and walked away quickly.
After the two juveniles retrieved their ball, they returned to the 6700 block of North Whipple and saw that the vehicle and its occupants were still parked. The two juveniles then ran fast past the vehicle to their residence and alerted their parents, according to the release.
The female passenger is described as a white woman 20 to 30 years old. She was wearing a dark scarf over her head.
An unknown driver of the car is described as a white male who was 17 to 20 years old. He was wearing a baseball cap with a straight brim and a T-shirt.
The suspects’ vehicle was a black SUV-type of an unknown make or model.
