By now, you’ve probably heard that Big Star and Dove’s Luncheonette will offer breakfast tacos from Big Star’s to-go window starting May 5 (yes, Cinco de Mayo). Three breakfast taco options will be available 9-11 a.m. Friday through Saturday for your weekend carne cravings.
If you plan on being the first person there on opening day—which you should because they’re giving out free tacos while supplies last—we have something to hold you over. Photographic evidence of said breakfast tacos proves that chefs Julie Warpinski (Big Star) and Dennis Bernard (Dove’s Luncheonette) are whipping up the perfect tortilla-swaddled hangover helpers. Mingas Taco ($3): tortilla chips topped with salsa, eggs, pickled red onion and queso fresco
Huevos Con Carne Taco ($4): grilled steak, peppers and onion with eggs and spicy tomato salsa
Chorizo Verde Taco ($3): crispy potatoes, green chorizo and eggs
