Floyd is now the sixth linebacker to be drafted by the Bears in the first round since 1965. Four of his predecessors went on to establish themselves as key position players for the team:
Dick Butkus,

Drafted 3rd overall in 1965
Eight-time Pro Bowler; five-time First-Team All-Pro; Inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
Otis Wilson,
#55
Drafted 19th overall in 1980
One-time Pro Bowler; won Super Bowl XX with the Bears in 1986.
Wilber Marshall,

Drafted 11th overall in 1984
Three-time Pro Bowler; two-time First-Team All-Pro; won Super Bowl XX with the Bears in 1986.
Brian Urlacher,
#54
Drafted 9th overall in 2000
Eight-time Pro Bowler and four-time First-Team All-Pro.
Every first round NFL draft pick since 1965
Much of the NFL has changed in the 50 years since the New York Giants selected running back Tucker Frederickson with the first overall pick in 1965, a year before the first season of the Super Bowl era (The Bears had a monster draft picking Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers). That year there were 14 picks in the first round, fewer than half as many as there are now. In 2016, Cal’s Jared Goff was selected with the first pick overall. The San Francisco Bay-area quarterback will stay in his home state to play for the Los Angeles Rams. Nineteen of the last 21 first picks overall have been used for offense — 14 on quarterbacks alone. In the past, defensive players were selected first overall almost as often as offensive players.
