Plans called for lanes along various stretches of Interstate 57 in Country Club Hills and Matteson to be temporarily closed at night starting Tuesday, weather permitting, in order to make road safety improvements, state transportation officials said.
Nightly closures also will happen on Interstate 80 near Central Avenue as needed, according to an announcement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The project is expected to be finished sometime later this spring, according to IDOT. It will consist of asphalt resurfacing, installation of shoulder rumble strips and guardrails, and replacing pavement markings.
Motorists driving through the project’s work areas from south of Lincoln Highway to north of Interstate 80 should expect delays, according to IDOT.
Drivers also should plan for extra travel time, according to IDOT. Officials recommend drivers obey posted speed limits, watch out for other signage and flaggers, and be on alert for workers in the area.
Updates about travel times are available at www.travelmidwest.com. More details about the project can be found on IDOT’s website: www.idot.illinois.gov.
