Riders on a few South Shore trains will see schedule changes, and others may experience delays, while the railroad works on its tracks in the coming months.
The changes start Monday, May 2, a week earlier than previously announced, and will affect non-rush hour trains, two of which will be canceled temporarily.
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which runs the South Shore Line, will upgrade its crossovers, on which trains cross from one track to another, between the East Chicago and Portage/Ogden Dunes stations.
The two weekday trains that won’t run are eastbound Train 205 between Millennium Station in Chicago (6:45 a.m.) and Gary Metro (7:41 a.m.), and westbound Train 220 between Gary Metro (4:34 p.m.) and Millennium Station (5:34 p.m.)
An express bus substituting for eastbound Train 203 between Millennium Station (6:10 a.m.) and Gary Metro (7:05 a.m.), will not stop at the Van Buren or Gary/Chicago Airport stations.
From May 2 to June 30, westbound Train 20 will leave South Bend Airport about 65 minutes earlier, at 3:40 p.m. Eastern time, and arrive at Millennium Station at 5:21 p.m. Central, making all the stops along the way.
Weekend and off-peak weekday trains may experience delays, the NICTD announcement said.
