Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler agreed to reschedule to July a Joliet man’s upcoming trial in connection with an Aurora slaying.

The judge made the decision after a new attorney stepped up to represent the man on Thursday.

Dimitri Hosey-Green, 20, was set for trial May 11 but appeared in court with a private lawyer who told Tegeler he would need more time to prepare to defend Hosey-Green on charges he shot and killed Arin Williams inside an Aurora restaurant in 2014. He’s been charged with murder.

“I’m not going to be ready. He’s entitled to effective counsel,” Robert Lewin said after receiving nearly 800 pages of documents and other materials from Hosey-Green’s previously appointed attorney.

Tegeler said he found “interesting” the timing of Lewin joining the case, which he pointed out has had several scheduled trial dates postponed, including one with a March 28 start date. The judge set the case for a July 11 trial with a status hearing in May. Prosecutors did not object to the delay.

Hosey-Green and his brother, Jaquan, planned to rob Williams instead of buying marijuana from him during the meeting at the now-closed La Torta Restaurant on Lake Street, according to authorities.

Jaquan Hosey-Green pleaded guilty to murder and armed robbery in February as part of an agreement with prosecutors. The plea did not include a recommended sentence, but it does require him to testify truthfully at future court hearings. Dimitri Hosey-Green’s previous attorney, in court filings, took that to suggest Jaquan Hosey-Green will testify against his brother at trial. Jaquan Hosey-Green told police he grabbed the bag of marijuana from Williams and started to run when he heard a loud noise. He turned to see Williams bleeding on the floor, court documents state. The Hosey-Green brothers were arrested in Cicero a short time after the shooting.
