Last week, I suggested that “Empire” was back on track to being a watchable show instead of a terrible, convoluted mess. Did that hold true with this week’s episode, “Time Shall Unfold”? Let’s put it to the test.
Was family drama at the center of the episode?
And how. Anika finally revealed that she’s pregnant with Hakeem’s heir (“This family talks about heirs like we’re in a Shakespearean play”), Lucious took Andre to his mother’s grave so they could have a heart-to-heart about their shared mental illness, Rhonda and Andre started working on their marriage, Lucious finally wrestled control of Empire back from Hakeem and … Lucious’ mother isn’t really dead! Of all the ridiculous “Empire” developments this season, this one has to be the best because it sets up massive future conflicts that are purely Lyon-family oriented.
Did Cookie have some good one-liners?
It wasn’t her best episode, but “Whatchu doing up in here with all these white people?” was pretty good. And when Anika said, “I’m pregnant,” Cookie busted out a “So?” It was perfect.
Was the fashion cracktastic?
See Cookie’s outfit in the picture above.
Were there strong musical numbers?
Sadly, not really. There were some good scenes with Jamal in the studio, but the only performance came from Tiana at the shareholders’ meeting. It was halfway through the episode and nothing to write home about.
Bonus: Was there a Nicki Minaj ripoff?
Yep. And her name is Stacey Run Run.
