While Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump rallied with supporters Wednesday in Indianapolis, his campaign began its efforts in Northwest Indiana.
Three campaign workers manned the phones Wednesday afternoon after the newly opened Trump office opened in Griffith at 344 Broad St., next to Lucille’s Bar. Lucille’s owner, Michelle Creech, volunteered the space to the campaign last week.
“I got word about it and knew I had a shot, so I started cleaning out the storefront,” Creech said. “A guy from Indianapolis came in last night with members of the Town Council and told us we got it.
“If you put good things out in the universe, they tend to come back to you.”
That representative, Cody Reynolds, referred questions to Trump Spokeswoman Hope Hicks. Hicks didn’t return a call for comment.
Creech, who makes no secret of her support for Trump, has no idea whether having the campaign office next door will help or hurt her business. Right now, she just wants to be part of the process.
“Donald Trump — my buddy!” she said. “When I worked on the Ford Assembly line, I listened to all his books on tape. I’ve just always liked him.”
Trump isn’t the only presidential candidate to set up shop in Griffith. Hillary Clinton’s campaign also is establishing an office at 1831 W. Glen Park.
