
Three people were killed and 33 wounded in shootings in Chicago over the weekend, more than double last weekend’s toll as the area experienced its warmest weather in six months.

At least 913 people have been shot in Chicago since the first of the year, 370 more than the same time last year, according to data kept by the Tribune. There have been at least 168 homicides this year, 65 more than the same period last year.
Among the wounded this past weekend was a 1-year-old girl who was shot in the neck Friday afternoon as she sat in the back of a car on the West Side, police said. The shots were fired from a car headed in the other direction in the 5400 block of West LeMoyne Street in the North Austin neighborhood, police said.
A bullet went through the trunk and back seat and hit the toddler, police said. The driver took the girl to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, and she was later transferred to Stroger Hospital. She was released over the weekend, police said. No one was reported in custody.
Hours later, two men died after being shot at a garage party in Englewood, police said. Someone who had tried and failed to get into the party came back with a gun and began firing, police said.
Pierre Payne, 32, was hit in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. Andrew Haynes, 34, was shot several times in the stomach and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died. Another man was shot in the hip and also taken to Stroger. His condition was stabilized.
Early Sunday morning, police found Fredrick Lee Blount unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Blount was pronounced dead at the scene, near the corner of 13th Street and Central Park Avenue. He was a Collins Academy High School graduate and the father of two, according to his family.
In all, two were killed and nine wounded from late Friday afternoon to early Saturday; one was killed and 14 were wounded from Saturday morning to early Sunday; and 10 people were wounded Sunday morning through late Sunday night.
