A 49-year-old man was critically injured after he crashed the motorized minibike he was riding Sunday night in unincorporated Cary.

The Cary man was riding the bike west on Fox River road when he crashed just east of Hickory Nut Grove Road about 6:50 p.m., according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness told police the man took his hands off the handlebars and lost control of the bike, according to the release.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, hit his head on the pavement and an emergency helicopter took him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition, police said.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to the release.
