An August trial date has been scheduled for the former Elburn police officer accused of sexually assaulting a female relative.

David Wright, 54, most recently of Campton Hills, remains held in Kane County Jail on $500,000 bail charged with 33 counts of sexual assault and abuse involving the female during a 10-year span ending in April 2015 with Wright’s arrest. He has denied the allegations, and prosecutors have said in court documents that he faces a minimum of 143 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Prosecutors made an offer to Wright and his attorney last fall, but no resolution in the case was ever reached. Judge D.J. Tegeler set an Aug. 20 trial date during a Friday hearing.

Elburn officials fired Wright last year to end his 23-year career as a police officer. At an early hearing in the case, Wright acknowledged his family was living paycheck to paycheck off his salary and had heavy medical debt as reasons he could not post bond. Wright tried again in January to have his bond reduced, telling Tegeler that he had a job lined up and sought his release because he was the closest relative in the area to his elderly mother.
