A Montgomery woman has decided it is time to publicly say thanks to local law enforcement officials.

That is the driving force that Kami Terry said drew her neighbors and friends together to host a rally and raffle for members of the community aimed at supporting police and fire officials.

The Community Heroes Event fundraiser is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Montgomery, 121 N. River St.

“I wanted to do something to show I appreciate the sacrifices these people have made for their families,” Terry said. “With all the police shootings, the cops killed, this struck home. I think all lives matter.”

The young woman said her father is a retired police officer who spent some 28 years as a member of the Montgomery Police Department. She said her brother is a police officer in a neighboring community and she wanted to do something to show her appreciation.

She has been visiting with many businesses in the area to obtain items to make up part of a raffle that patrons can buy tickets to at the event. So far, items to be raffled off include a Charbroil 4 burner gas grill valued at $200, gift certificates to various restaurants and a basket of items from Olive Garden.

She said local bakery Butterfly Kisses Sweets & Treats will be making a cake for area police and fire department officials. She said gift certificates will be given to local police stations to be given to the officers.

“I want to get enough certificates to give them to the chiefs and to make sure all the officers get them,” she said.

The Montgomery-Countryside Fire Department as well as the Montgomery Police Department will send a police and fire truck to the rally.
