If you are looking for a job, Governors State University officials said they might be able to help.

The college is hosting its annual spring career and internship fair 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. April 14 in the main hall of the university’s center for performing arts at 1 University Parkway, University Park.

“The department of career srvices at Governors State University recognizes how important it is to connect students and alumni with opportunities to make personal introductions with employers,” said Darcie Campos, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of career services at Governors State. “With the job market being more competitive than ever, we encourage attendees to think about what it is that sets them apart from their competition, and to be compelling in order to make a powerful first introduction.”

The career and internship fair is a chance for job seekers to meet with potential employers to discover job and internship opportunities they might not have known were available to them otherwise, officials said. The free event is open to students and the public.

There will be about 60 employers at the event, according to Cynthia Staples, recruitment coordinator for the office of career services at Governors State University. Staples is responsible for organizing the fair with help from her office manager, Janet Wolske.

“This fair is one of the largest in the area but usually students who are interested in seeing a certain employer will not have to wait for hours in line to see them,” Staples said. “The fair is just the right size for optimal opportunities for both employers and participants.”

There will be a variety of employers in the areas of business, technology, business, communications, addiction studies, criminal justice, public administration, community health and education. Some employers attending the event will include The Art Institute of Chicago, RR Donnelly, Metra, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange group and Walgreens.

“Participants can learn more about their field of interest in conversations with employers, as well as gain valuable practice in their initial interviewing skills, not to mention real opportunities,” Staples said.

The college is anticipating more than 100 job seekers at the event.

“This is our largest annual career fair, where [college] majors are represented across many of our divisions,” Staples said.

Career fairs have been held on the campus since 2003.
