Temperatures shot up 46 degrees and then plunged back down over a 24-hour period from Sunday to Monday.

The low Sunday morning was 26 degrees. By the afternoon, temperatures had reached a high of 71, according to the National Weather Service. It was the largest temperatures range in a single day since Jan. 29, 2008, and the 13th largest one-day range since 1871.

By Monday morning, temperatures were in the middle 30s, a nearly 40-degree drop as low pressure moved east across southern Lake Michigan overnight.

Some rain and possibly flurries were expected through the day Monday with northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph. There could be some sun in the afternoon with temperatures around 40, about 14 degrees below normal.

The highs this week are expected to stay mostly in the 40s and low 50s this week, with a chance of rain every day.
