A man who police say was chased through Lake Forest on three different nights in March while driving three different stolen vehicles will appear in court next month.
“He was on a tear and driving cars left and right,” Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf said. “It’s very unusual.”
Marshall Delvalle, 28, of the 300 block of Susan Circle, Park City, is being held at Lake County Jail against a $100,000 bond. He has been charged with burglary and criminal damage to property in Waukegan. In Highland Park, he faces charges of resisting a police officer, fleeing a police officer and aggravated assault, said Cynthia Vargas of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Police departments continue to investigate and charges could change, Vargas said.
On March 9, Lake Forest police heard over the radio that a group of people had smashed a stolen car into a gas station in Waukegan at 3:30 a.m. and burglarized it, Walldorf said. Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Highland Park police took part in the chase along Route 41, Walldorf said.
“He came south in a stolen car through our town,” Walldorf said. “Our officers tried to stop him but he wouldn’t stop. Generally, we won’t pursue a stolen car.”
On March 12, a pizza truck was stolen from west 63rd Street in Chicago, according Waukegan Police Commander Joe Florip.
The pizza truck was followed by a Chicago police helicopter through Lake County as it traveled north on U.S. Route 41, said Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County sheriff’s office. The chase went through Lake Forest, Park City and North Chicago, he said.
The truck was found in the 600 block of North Avenue in Waukegan, police said. Delvalle is a suspect in that crime, Florip said.

No charges have been pressed against Delvalle in that incident as of March 28, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
“The Chicago police and then a state trooper picked him up,” Walldorf said. “Then Highland Park police, then Lake Forest Police and Lake Bluff Police. He just wasn’t going to stop. We let him go when we were north of Lake Bluff.”
Lake Forest Police identified Delvalle the following week with the help of a Park City police officer, Walldorf said. Waukegan Police obtained a warrant on March 15, according to court documents.
Then on March 16 before he could be picked up on the warrant, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police again found themselves chasing Delvalle north on Route 41 near Westleigh Road, taking over from a state police officer at 2:07 a.m., according to Lake Forest police reports. This time Delvalle was driving a pick-up truck with high sides in back that was reported stolen in Waukegan, said Walldorf
“His vehicle was a little top heavy,” Walldorf said. “While he was driving he was swerving a bit and ended up in a ditch.”
Delvalle was arrested and taken to the Lake Forest Police station, where he was questioned by detectives from Waukegan, Lake Bluff, Highland Park, Chicago and Lake Forest.
“He was very cooperative with the police,” Walldorf said. “He spent one to two hours with each set of detectives.”
Ultimately Delvalle was turned over to Waukegan Police.
Walldorf says police chases through Lake Forest are fairly infrequent.
“We don’t chase for most minor offenses,” said Walldorf. “Every so often someone will fail to stop for us but we don’t pursue.”
