Police found more than three pounds of suspected drugs and a gun during a Wednesday morning traffic stop in Markham, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Joshua Tolliver, 33, and Paris Ambrose, 30, both of Chicago, are charged with delivering between 500 and 2,000 grams of marijuana, and possession of between 500 and 2,000 grams of marijuana, reports said. Ambrose also faces one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly possessing a handgun as a felon.
Tolliver’s bail was set at $200,000 and Ambrose’s was set at $50,000 during their court appearances Thursday at the Markham courthouse.
A search of Tolliver’s brown Cadillac SRV, which Cook County sheriff’s deputies stopped for a traffic violation at about 4:05 a.m. near 159th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, uncovered 68 clear bags of suspected marijuana that weighed several pounds, police said.
Deputies reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana after stopping the SUV, according to police. When the two men exited the vehicle, Tolliver allegedly dropped a bag that contained what appeared to be marijuana, police said.
The search uncovered an open container of alcohol and a canvas bag holding the large amount of marijuana, police said.
