A recent study ranking the best basketball cities in America is almost too on the nose for Chicago.
Personal financial website WalletHub ranks the Windy City at No. 9, which as it happens is where the Bulls sit in the Eastern Conference standings, just out of the playoffs if they began today.
The Bulls have time to change their fortunes this season, of course, which could alter the study down the road. In the meantime, the Chicago might take comfort in knowing it placed second in NBA attendance, one of 18 metrics used to evaluate each city’s NBA and NCAA Division I atmosphere.
Among the other highlights, Chicago ranked:
>> 8th in terms of NBA team performance
>> 3rd in NBA championship wins and 3rd among NBA franchise value
Shockingly, Chicago ranked 145th in sports bars per capita.
Meanwhile, Rosemont rated 25th among the 297 cities, including first in the Cost and Fan Engagement rank. The DePaul men’s basketball team plays its home games in Rosemont.
