Five months after opening a fulfillment center in Joliet, Amazon said Wednesday that it was adding 500 additional full-time jobs at the facility.
In August, the online retail giant said it would provide 1,000 new full-time jobs and invest $40 million in the 500,000-square-foot facility in exchange for up to 10 years of state tax breaks. The company said last year it chose the suburb because of its proximity to Chicago and its labor pool.
The center opened in October and fills orders of smaller items including books and electronics.
Mike Flannery, general manager of the facility, said the new jobs include a variety of positions. The center currently employs more than 1,000 workers, he said.
“We’re actively hiring, we’ve already started and hope to fill those positions as quickly as possible,” Flannery said.
