Less than a week before Christopher Whetstone’s scheduled murder trial, the case has been moved back until at least May, court records show.

Whetstone, 47, of Aurora, appeared in court recently for a hearing during which Kane County Judge John Barsanti agreed to reset the trial originally scheduled to begin Monday. Barsanti scheduled a March 30 hearing for pretrial motions with the trial now planned for May 9.

Whetstone is charged with murder in the shooting death of Rachel Taylor, his onetime girlfriend and mother of the couple’s two children, during a 2014 argument and struggle, according to court records and authorities. Police found Taylor unconscious on the sidewalk on Charles Street in Aurora with two gunshot wounds to the stomach.

Whetstone, who has been held in Kane County Jail since his January 2014 arrest, unsuccessfully tried to have his statements to police suppressed. Other pretrial motions have focused on whether jurors at trial would hear about evidence found by police and certain witness testimony.
