Comics, coming-of-age tales and essays on the creative process dominate the bookshelves of Roscoe Village couple Sean Dove and Rosamund Lannin.

“Sean and his friends spent a day building the shelves,” says Rose, an IT consultant who also runs a live lit series called Miss Spoken and edits Story Club magazine. “They sort of keep us honest about whether we need to get rid of books. If any start spilling off the sides, we’re in trouble.”

Lannin’s must-keep titles include “The Diary of a Teenage Girl” — a graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner that veers from “perfect, sparkly” teen narratives — and “Bird by Bird” by Anne Lamott, “which is like getting tough-love writing advice from a really cool aunt.”

Dove, a freelance illustrator and designer who self-published “The Last Days of Danger,” featuring his illustrations and reviews of 23 spy films, appreciates visually interesting books: “Gus & His Gang,” a graphic novel that harnesses Western tropes, Astro Boy comics and others.
