Jim Schurr, who spent 13 seasons as the coach of Libertyville’s varsity baseball team, resigned on Monday, Feb. 22, just a week before tryouts for the 2016 season were set to begin.

According to Wildcats athletic director Briant Kelly, Schurr stepped down for personal reasons. Kelly did not elaborate. Sean Ferrell will be the interim baseball coach at Libertyville this year.

Schurr, who played Division I baseball for Western Kentucky, compiled a career 297-159-1 record at Libertyville while winning four regional titles. He led the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state tournament in 2013, winning at least 20 games in all but one of his seasons in charge.

The Wildcats have only had one losing season (2006) since 1981, according to the IHSA website. Prior to joining Libertyville in 2002, Ferrell was the coach at Grayslake.

Schurr did not return a phone call asking for a comment.
