A Kane County grand jury’s recent indictment now accuses a Kane County Circuit Clerk’s Office employee of improperly handling two traffic ticket payments, according to court records.
Kelli D. Brackett, who is free on bond, faces two counts each of theft of government property, official misconduct and forgery between September 2014 and August 2015. The indictment states Brackett took an unspecified amount of money greater than $500 in an “attempt to gain a personal advantage for herself or another” by editing court records “to reflect incorrect payment amounts on criminal and traffic cases.”
Brackett was arrested last month on similar charges tied to a Skokie man’s 2014 speeding ticket. The indictments reference two different traffic cases from 2015, one involving an Aurora man and a second with a South Elgin man. Prosecutors allege 40-year-old Brackett, of Sycamore, created falsified payment receipts relating to those tickets.
The indictments were issued Feb. 3, but were not available for viewing until Wednesday. Brackett is scheduled to return to court for arraignment March 9.
Kane County Circuit Clerk Thomas Hartwell said last month that Brackett had been placed on paid administrative leave.
