A 37-year-old Alsip man was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bond Saturday accused of stabbing his ex-wife’s boyfriend 25 times and killing him in the driveway of the woman’s south suburban home, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Juan L. Gonzalez-Sanchez did not appear to react as Associate Judge Peggy Chiampas made the ruling during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. If Gonzalez-Sanchez manages to make bail, he will be on around-the-clock home confinement and cannot have any contact with his ex-wife, his children or the victim’s family, Chiampas ruled.

Several members of Orth’s family were present during the hearing, but left afterward without comment.

Gonzalez-Sanchez, charged with first-degree murder is accused of repeatedly stabbing Christopher Orth, 32, in the driveway of his ex-wife’s home Thursday night in the 15100 block of Chaucer Drive in south suburban Oak Forest just after 11 p.m., according to prosecutors and police.

Gonzalez-Sanchez, of the 11700 block of Karlov Ave., went to his ex-wife home’s home the night of the slaying after calling her several times earlier in the day angry over child care concerns, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Rachel Mabbott said in court.

After arriving at the home Gonzalez-Sanchez encountered Orth inside a car and began yelling and pounding on the windows, Mabbott said. He then got into his own car and rammed Orth’s vehicle, she said.

When Orth got out of his car, Gonzalez-Sanchez pulled and knife and chased him down stabbing him 25 times, Mabbott said. He only stopped, according to authorities, when a neighbor, who owns a concealed carry permit came to the scene and threatened to shoot Gonzalez-Sanchez if he didn’t stop.

Police then arrested Gonzalez-Sanchez and took him into custody, where he admitted stabbing Orth, Mabbott said. Police also recovered the knife used in the attack, which Gonzalez-Sanchez’s ex-wife identified as belonging to him.

He is expected to appear at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Tuesday.
