Firefighters rescued a 15-year-old girl hanging from the window of a burning building Wednesday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The fire was reported about 5:20 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Wilcox Street, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find the girl hanging from a second-floor window of the two-story brick home. She was rescued by a firefighter who extended a ladder to the window and brought her down.

The girl was taken to Loretto Hospital in fair-to-serious condition. The fire was caused by either a washing machine or a dishwasher, a spokesman for the Fire Department said.
