Presentation: Three local leaders will discuss environmental challenges facing our communities at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Adlai Stevenson Center on Democracy, 25200 N. St. Mary’s Road. Molly Flanagan, vice president for policy at the Alliance for the Great Lakes; Eleanor Revelle, president of Citizens’ Greener Evanston; and Beth Drucker, co-facilitator for the Consortium of North Shore Environmental Groups, will describe how grassroots coalitions can collaborate on combating the causes and effects of climate change. Their focus is on taking collaborative actions to control flooding, drought, polluted aquifers and waste management while improving the quality of air, water and food supply. Grayslake

Forum: State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is inviting local business leaders to join him and the College of Lake County Small Business Development & International Trade Center for a free economic development forum at 9 a.m. Feb. 24 at State Bank of the Lakes, 50 Commerce Drive. Yingling is expected to provide a legislative update and solicit policy feedback, while CLC will provide a presentation on the services they offer to local companies. Waukegan

Honors: Several Waukegan Park District officials were recently honored with awards. Greg Petry, executive director of the Waukegan Park District, received the 2016 Honored Professional Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts. Jay Lerner, superintendent of recreation in Waukegan, was recognized with the association’s 2015 Community Impact Award. The Midwest Institute of Park Executives recognized Rafael Ayala, a park district maintenance worker, with the 2015 Outstanding Park Employee and the Ralph Voris Community Service awards. The Waukegan Park District as a whole was accredited by the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA).

Tax-Aide: Volunteers from AARP will help seniors complete their income taxes at Park Place Senior Center, 414 S. Lewis Ave. The service is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon through April 14. No appointment necessary. There will be Spanish speaking tax preparers on Thursdays. The program offers free tax preparation help to anyone 50 and older who can’t afford a tax preparation service. The volunteers are IRS-certified. Tax-Aide is not restricted to Waukegan Township residents. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services and AARP membership is not required.
