Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When I’m listening to Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks,” one of the most formative tracks of my teenage years, I’m definitely not thinking about Death Cab For Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” another important song for me because I put it on a lot of embarrassing mixes for high school crushes. Well, here I am now thinking about these two influential, mid-aughts songs at the same time because there’s a mash-up series of the two acts called Death Cab for Yeezy. What’s more amazing than the fact that something like this exists is that it’s actually really, really good.

Along with the aforementioned “Jesus Walks//I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” Death Cab for Yeezy mashes up the indie pop band’s “Soul Meets Body” with Ye’s “Late Registration” cut “Touch The Sky,” “Title and Registration” with “The New Workout Plan” and more. There’s no reason why Yeezy’s bombast fits with Ben Gibbard’s introspective pop, but it’s the year 2016 and not a lot of things make sense. But to quote Drake and Future, truly “What A Time To Be Alive” that we can hear the lyrics to “Good Life” over the moody, downbeat “Transatlanticism” arrangement. Listen below while you wait for Kanye’s new album to actually drop.

Update: These were taken down on Soundcloud. Fortunately, some brave souls saved a couple of them on Tumblr.
