New Trier’s Emma Jane Rohrer and Niles West’s Jasmine Dirks will both end their first year high school gymnastics at the state meet.

Rohrer, a sophomore, earned automatic berths on uneven bars (second, 9.325), balance beam (tied for fifth, 9.125) and floor exercise (fifth, 9.225) at the Mundelein Sectional on Tuesday, Feb. 9. She also qualified in the all-around (second, 37.05).

Dirks automatically qualified on vault (tied for third, 9.40).

“I’m excited,” the freshman said, with a big smile, after learning she’d made it to state.

Top-five finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet, which is scheduled to take place at Palatine on Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20. At-large berths are awarded once all four sectionals are completed.

Loyola senior Claire Sullivan qualified automatically with a second-place finish on beam (9.45). She also tied for third on uneven bars (9.30).

Glenbrook South junior Katie Wahl also qualified automatically with a first-place finish on uneven bars (9.35). She tied for third on vault (9.40) as well.

The Titans finished fourth as a team (139.45). Rohrer led New Trier to a second-place finish (141.50). Carmel was first (146.275) and automatically advanced to the state meet. At-large team qualifiers will be announced after the sectionals are completed. Glenbrook North was sixth (132.625).
