Richard Jasiak takes a lot of pride in decorating his home for the Christmas season. For his effort, he was recently recognized by the village of Elmwood Park.

Richard Jasiak, 60, and his wife Carmella, who live at 7900 Bloomingdale Ave., were one of four sets of homeowners — and two whole blocks — recognized Feb. 1 by the Elmwood Park Village Board as winners of the village’s decorating contest.

Along with the Jasiaks, members of the Patano family at 2108 73rd Ave., the Sol family at 3016 77th Court and the Ficco family at 3025 78th Ave. were given certificates of merit, along with gift certificates to a local restaurant.

The 1800 block of 75th Avenue and 7900 block of Oakleaf Avenue were also acknowledged as blocks that were beautifully decorated for the Christmas holiday season.

Jasiak, 60, said they’ve always decorated their home during the Christmas season for the 27 years they’ve lived in the home. They usually cover the home and shrubbery with white holiday lights.

“We just feel it’s a festive kind of season and it puts everybody in the holiday spirit,” he said.

He said it takes a while to decorate the home, but it’s worth it.

“It takes a good couple of weeks to get it all done, but it’s something we’re proud of,” he said. “We live in a nice location and it enhances the neighborhood.”
