A prominent education policy scholar will offer his expertise on gifted learners at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bartlett High School, according to a School District U46 release.
Dr. Jonathan Plucker, of Johns Hopkins University, will wax philosophical for district families regarding creativity as well during the event.
“We’re excited to host Dr. Plucker for staff and families and reflect on how we can better identify and serve gifted students from diverse backgrounds,” District CEO Tony Sanders said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for all of us to learn from a gifted expert dedicated to helping public schools close the excellence gap.”
Plucker’s appearance comes on the heels of a district announcement that it will expand its gifted learning programs to all of its middle schools in the 2016-17 school year.
Plucker is expected to talk about the relationship between creativity and intelligence, as well as how the relationship between the two is often overlooked.
Much of Plucker’s work at the national and state levels involved closing the achievement gap between affluent white and Asian groups and poorer minority groups, according to the district.
