Guofei Zhou, 46, of Oak Park, was at the Paul Hruby Ice Arena at Ridgeland Common Jan. 17 watching his son play hockey when he answered a few questions for the Oak Leaves.

Q: Are you a hockey fan?

A: My son’s part of the Polar Bears hockey team. He’s been playing a while. I’m not a hockey player but I skate. I’ve come to like hockey.

Q: Hidden gem of Oak Park or River Forest?

A: The Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex. The whole facility is very good. It’s year-round.

Q: Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? How’re they coming along?

A: I want to run a 20K. I’ve been running the Frank Lloyd Wright 10K race for three years. I run 8K to 10K once a week. So that’s my plan.

Q: Words you live by?

A: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I’m Chinese, and in Confucian dogma, they have similar wordings.

Q: Favorite local restaurant?

A: Luo’s Peking House and Szechwan Beijing [now closed]. They’re a mix of Chinese and American, but they do have some authentic dishes. I like the duck at Luo’s Peking House.

Q: Do you celebrate the Chinese New Year [on Feb. 8]?

A: In China, they’ve already started celebrating. We eat nian gao, a Chinese New Year rice cake. The kids still have to go to school … but we eat and celebrate.
