Gurnee

Donations: The Gurnee public works facility, 1151 Kilbourne Ave., will serve as a drop-off location for residents and groups who wish to donate water to pet owners in Flint, Mich. Bottled water can be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For after hours or weekend drop offs, the Gurnee Fire Department will be accepting donations at Fire Station No. 1, 4580 Old Grand Ave., or Fire Station No. 2, 6581 Dada Drive. The drop off will end at 3 p.m. Feb. 11. The water drive is organized by DogaholicKs Rescue, a nonprofit organization out of Dyer, Ind. The drive aims to provide pet owners with clean drinking water for their pets, who are often ignored during a water crisis. All water will be transported by to Flint area on Feb. 14. Mettawa

Presentation: Dr. Dongsheng Di, an economist and university professor, will examine the economic reforms being initiated in China and discuss the implications for that nation and other world economies at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Adlai Stevenson Center on Democracy, 25200 N. St. Marys Road in Mettawa. Di is an associate professor on international political economics at the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China. Waukegan

Resource fair: North Shore Gas customers who need help with their heating bills can apply for financial assistance from the company’s Share the Warmth program during a special resource fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at HealthReach’s Waukegan Health Center, 2323 Grand Ave. The fair will offer services from other organizations as well. Share the Warmth provides qualifying North Shore Gas customers with grants of up to $200 toward their natural gas bills. Income guidelines are available at northshoregasdelivery.com. To apply for a grant at the resource fair, customers must bring proof of household income or any financial assistance for the past 30 days for all members of the household over age 18, and their current residential heating bill. Customers who attend the fair also can learn about rebates for high-efficiency products and sign up for North Shore Gas’ Home Energy Jumpstart program. For more information, call 312-240-4567.

Celebration: The Lake County Forest Preserve District is hosting the 33rd annual Profiles in Excellence black history month program from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road.
