Nearly two dozen students from Lake County who attend Carthage College took study tours at locations around the world, according to a news release from the Kenosha, Wis. college.

Heather Beckman of Antioch and Destiny Perez of Waukegan participated in a study tour called “Spanish Language Immersion in Guatemala.” They studied and experienced rural life in and around an agricultural community in northern Guatemala with a population of only 500 people.

Jessica Buhmann of Gurnee and Jessica Rueda of Waukegan took part in the “Gender, Race, and Class: Social Identities in Modern London” study tour.

During a three-week study tour in India, Joshua Brandt of Fox Lake learned about Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. Students in this study tour examined the life and interactions of these three groups and analyzed how their interactions are shaped by historical and cultural contexts.

Jodie Hurd of Gurnee participated in a Reformation J-Term study tour in Germany, where the emphasis was on the 16th century birth of the Lutheran Reformation, German Lutherans, the Holocaust, and the east-west divide symbolized by the Berlin Wall. The study tour was based in Berlin.

On the “Representations of Germany’s Past” study tour, Annaliese Kambol and Griffin Kambol of Lake Forest and Gina Pacenti of Gurnee spent 18 days in Berlin, Dresden and Munich.

Taylor Alton of South Barrington, Danielle Fiarito of Vernon Hills and Krystal Perez of Wadsworth studied Parisian life and history during a tour called “Paris: A Capital Experience.”

During a World War II study tour to Western Europe, Holly Hamilton of Lake Villa, Leah Rappaport of Deerfield and Erik Wilson of Lincolnshire visited battlefields, monuments, museums and cemeteries of World War II.

“Interplay of Economics, Politics, and Culture in Hong Kong” focused on international finance, economics and business law in Hong Kong. The following local students learned what it is like to do business in Hong Kong for both multinational companies and small local businesses: Abbey Prellberg of Lindenhurst and Thomas Webb of Wauconda.

Michelle Bordenet of Lake Barrington, Rebecca Bowen of Antioch, Jessica Catinella of Lake Villa and Brittany Coriaci of Gurnee learned about the biology and geography of Nicaragua during a study tour. They were able to experience clinical work or work on water projects.

Matthew Hirsch of Lake Villa participated in a study tour to Honduras, where he had the opportunity to study the ecology of tropical America while learning about the evolution of nervous systems and behavior.

Olivia Tenbusch of Winthrop Harbor participated in a study tour to Africa.
