At least one student was taken to an area hospital after suffering from breathing difficulties from a smoky haze in an East Side neighborhood school midday Friday, authorities said.
Fire crews were called to Douglas Taylor Elementary School, 9912 S. Avenue H, about 11:40 a.m. following a report of a light haze in the building, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s media office.
Firefighters found no fire in the building, but evacuated the school as a precaution, and check students for injuries, said department spokesman Larry Langford.
At least one student, who was suffering an asthma attack after inhaling the smoky haze, was taken to an area hospital, Langford said. There were no serious injuries, however.
The haze may have come from an electrical problem in the building.
