From taking food orders and mixing drinks at Café Cubano, a restaurant in Elmwood Park, Yesenia Reyes sees her work as not only a job but training toward fulfilling her dreams.
Reyes, 25, of Berwyn, has been working at the restaurant for more than four years and hopes that she can have a similar business of her own one day. She’s lived in the United States for about 15 years and is married with a child.
Q. What do you like about living in the United States?
A. I like the lifestyle and if you work hard you can create a better life for yourself.
Q. What don’t you like about living in the United States?
A. The way immigrants are treated. The policies here are kind of hard and the immigrants only want to make money to support their families.
Q. What is one of your goals in life?
A. I want to own my own restaurant. It would serve Mexican food, of course.
Q. What is your favorite food?
A. Actually, my favorite food is Italian. I love pasta. I love Mexican food and, of course, Cuban food.
