Eleven-year-old comic book aficionado Ruby Favazza of Glencoe talked about her favorite superhero, her dream vacation and more during a recent visit to The Comix Gallery in Wilmette.

Q: Who’s your favorite superhero, and why?

A: I really like DC (one of two major comic book publishers) and I really like the Batman series. I like the villains in it because they have such interesting back stories. I like Gotham City. I think I starting enjoying comics when I was eight or nine and I think it was my dad who got me started.

Q: What words would you use to describe yourself?

A: Kind, I think. And helpful. I guess I would say I’m calm, too.

Q: What’s a favorite cause or charity that you’d like people to know about?

A: I do a lot of charity work, but my favorite I think is Misericordia. (A Chicago community run by the Sisters of Mercy for developmentally disabled children and adults. For information, visit )

Q: What’s the longest distance you’ve traveled for a vacation?

A: Hawaii. It took us six hours or longer to get there. I was 10, I think. I really liked the nice weather. I’d like to go to Tokyo and Japan. It’s very beautiful.

Q: Have you thought about what you’d like to make a career in a few years?

A: I really want to work in the music industry. That’s not very descriptive, but I really want to be involved in it.

Q: Final question: Zombie apocalypse, or alien invasion — which do you think you could survive?

A: A zombie apocalypse. I think aliens are much smarter, and they could figure out how to do things a lot more quickly. That would be more difficult to survive. Zombies are slow!
