Waukegan
Concert: Music students from all 15 Waukegan District 60 elementary schools will come together to perform at one of two upcoming shows. The annual Elementary All-City Orchestra Winter Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the high school’s Trapp Auditorium, 2325 Brookside Ave. The concert will feature nearly 300 students. The Trapp Auditorium will also host elementary musicians from Cooke Magnet School and Little Fort Project Discovery for a show on at 7 p.m. Feb. 5. The concert will feature All-Star Strings, Cool Strings, Super Strings, Beginning Mariachi Club, and Intermediate Mariachi Club. Both are free.
Workshops: Waukegan High School will hold a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at 1011 Washington St. Additional workshops will be held at the facility on Feb. 6 and March 5. There will be another workshop Feb. 20 at 2325 Brookside Ave. WHS seniors and their families will receive assistance in completing FAFSA forms. Attendees are asked to bring their 2014 or 2015 tax forms and W-2, along with their parents’ forms. Concerts: The Winter Band Concert for all fourth- and fifth-grade students in District 70 will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. The district’s Winter Orchestra Concert for all elementary students will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 4. Both will be at Butterfield School, 1441 W. Lake St. Details, 847-362-9695.
Mundelein
Meeting: Parents of incoming kindergartners should plan to attend Kindergarten Information Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Elementary School, 122 S. Garfield Ave. It is for the parents of students who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents do not need to bring anything for this meeting. The principal and members of the kindergarten team will give an overview of the kindergarten program and school year. Kindergarten teachers will be available to answer questions. Mundelein District 75 offers a full day kindergarten program at no additional cost. Staff will also be on hand to explain the school’s new two-way immersion program for incoming kindergartners. Two-way immersion integrates native English speaking students with native Spanish speaking students. Academic instruction is presented in both languages. Selection: Four Mundelein High School student musicians have been selected to participate in the All-State Music Festival, to be held Jan. 28-30 in Peoria. The students auditioned into the top chairs of District VII and were selected to represent the district in the all-state festival. The students selected are: Henry Carpender, Paige Eifert, Gabe Martinez and Steven Surmin.
