A Schererville man has been charged with three felonies in connection with an armed robbery and attempted armed robbery after a relative turned him in to police.
Schererville Police filed charges against Kyle E. Holmes, 25, for the armed robbery and attempted armed robbery at Chase Bank and First Financial Bank, in the 400 block of U.S. 30 in Schererville, said Schererville Commander Brian Neyhart.
According to a press release, a Holmes relative went to the police after seeing a Jan. 20 television segment in which he said he recognized the clothing the robber was wearing and the gun he used in photos shown.
The relative said he also recognized the description of the vehicle – a Hyundai Santa Fe — used in the robberies as another relative’s, the press release said.
Neyhart said other relatives watched a TV broadcast and “…they recognized it was Kyle,” he said.
The first relative then called a friend of Holmes’, who told him the two of them were at Hooters Restaurant in Schererville. Officers went to the restaurant and found Holmes hiding in the back seat of the friend’s car, the press release said.
Holmes was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail. He had drug paraphernalia on him, Neyhart said.
Holmes has been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, intimidation, theft, attempted theft and possession of paraphernalia, Neyhart said.
