Fundraiser: Waukegan High School JROTC Drill Team’s annual spaghetti and taco dinner will be held from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the school, 2325 Brookside Ave. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the drill team, and help offset costs of travel to national competitions. The event will feature three performances by the Bulldog Drill Team at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. The dinner is the team’s largest fundraiser of the year and it will also feature a raffle for a new television. Applications and test dates: Applications are now available for parents wishing to enroll their children in Waukegan’s Andrew Cooke Magnet School in the fall. Applications for kindergarten through fifth grade can be picked up at Cooke Magnet, 522 Belvidere Road. Attendance is open to any child living within Waukegan Public Schools’ boundaries. Cooke is a fine arts-focused elementary school, with a curriculum rich in art, music and science. School acceptance is based on an application, teacher recommendations and testing. Important dates related to enrollment include: Testing by appointment, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Feb. 6 and 13; and make-up testing date Feb. 20. Parents will be notified of kindergarten results via mail by March 11. If any other language other than English is spoken at home, parents are asked to contact the Welcome Center at 224-303-3630 to set up an appointment for a required language test. Spelling Bee: Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 will hold its annual district-wide Spelling Bee at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel Wright Junior High School, 1370 N. Riverwoods Road. Student finalists who represent grades 4-8 will compete. Details, www.d103.org/virtualbackpack.

Performance: Woodland Middle School Drama Club presents its winter production, “Airline,” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at the school’s Cafeteria A, 7000 Washington St. Meet an assortment of oddball characters and watch a new stewardesses trying to get a permanent position by passing a series of tests from the boss, Smiling Jack. Mundelein
Competition: Mundelein High School’s show choirs — Sound (mixed choir), Lights (all-female choir) and SoundFX (all-male choir) — recently competed in the prep division at the Burlington Chocolate City Showcase in Burlington, Wis. Both SoundFX and Sound advanced to the finals, with SoundFX winning its division. It was the first time in the 11-year history of SoundFX that they made the final round of a competition. At the end of the night, Sound was named fifth runner-up, and SoundFX took first runner-up honors. In addition, Bella Canela won best female soloist in the prep division, and Dominic Cappuccilli won best male soloist in the prep division.
