Author visit: Judy Nickels, author of “A Competent Witness: Georgiana Yoke and the Trial of H. H. Holmes”, presents the program “Who was the Real Georgiana Yoke?” at 4 p.m. Sunday. Nickels’ work of historical fiction, set largely around the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, was inspired by research conducted for the Lake Bluff History Museum. After the presentation, attendees are invited to a reception at the museum where they will have an opportunity to view exhibits about the 1893 Columbian Exposition and life in Lake Bluff during the 1890s. Portrayal: Betsey Means returns to portray Mary Henrietta Kingsley, an explorer and authority on Africa, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. In 1893, Kingsley set sail from England for Equatorial Africa with two objectives: to bring back fish specimens for the British Museum and to collect information on African religions. When she returned two years later, the articles she had published had already made her famous, and her readers were eager for more. Kingsley then wrote her first book, “Travels in West Africa.” Registration requested.

Games for grown-ups: Use board, card, or table games, provided or bring your own, for a social afternoon of gaming from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Open to high school through adult gamers of all levels.
Sensory-friendly movie: “Inside Out,” rated G, will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday. The intended audience is children with special needs accompanied by siblings and caregivers, but everyone is welcome. The room is lighter, the volume is lower and audience members are welcome to move around, talk and sing. Noise dampeners and fidgets are available for use. Registration recommended.
Baby art play: Strengthen core muscles with an artful distraction at 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Monday. Place babies on their bellies and watch them squish paint inside a plastic bag. Supplies included. For ages 0 through 14 months with a caregiver. Registration required.

Spy science: Teens can learn the skills needed to become a Technical Operations Officer (Tech Ops) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Use basic electronics, everyday objects and some creativity for a simulated spy mission. Participants will also be challenged to create a signaling device, decrypt a secret message and devise an exit plan using geospatial analysis. For grades 5 through 12.
