Following a national search, New Trier announced the hiring of Augustino Fontanetta as the school’s new athletic director on Wednesday, Jan. 20. He will replace the retiring Randy Oberembt.
A former teacher, coach and adviser at New Trier, Fontanetta currently is the director of athletics and activities for District 211, which includes Conant, Fremd, Hoffman Estates, Palatine and Schaumburg. Before that, he was the athletic director at Fremd.
“Augie clearly loves working with student-athletes and coaches alike,” New Trier Winnetka campus principal Denise Dubravec said in a statement. “He has strong leadership skills and an impressive track record in areas such as student leadership, coaches’ professional growth, and facilities development.”
New Trier District 203 approved Fontanetta at its board meeting Monday, Jan. 18. He starts July 1.
