The Schererville Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for a Cedar Lake woman in connection with a theft from a local jewelry store.
Darien N. Arredondo, 29, of the 13900 block of Butternut Street, visited Albert’s Jewelers, 711 N. Main St., on Jan. 7 and was shown several ring sets at once from a display case. Schererville police Commander Brian Neyhart said in a press release that Arredondo slipped a ring set valued at more than $9,000 into her pocket during the transaction while the salesperson was occupied.
When questioned by employees about the missing set, Arredondo told them she’d given it back to the salesperson, Neyhart said. Employees then asked to see her identification; she told them it was in the car and that she would go get it but never returned.
Schererville detectives discovered Arredondo pawned the ring set at a Hammond pawn shop, the press release said. It’s since been returned to Albert’s
Arredondo is charged with one count of theft, a Level 6 felony. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Detective Cpl. Jeff Cook at 219-322-5000 or the Schererville Police Crime Tip Hotline at 219-865-4646 for anonymous calls.
