An Aurora father who pleaded guilty in November to aggravated battery involving his son now wants to have the charges dropped because he has no contact with his three children, according to Kane County court documents.

Ivan Grant Sr., 36, filed a motion on his own behalf in December seeking to have aggravated battery and disorderly conduct convictions vacated. Grant wrote in the motion that “I feel like my life is useless” because he cannot see the children, who are minors.

Grant mentioned his role caring for them, including trips to church, before losing custody as a result of the charges. Court records indicated he had custody as recently as August 2014.

A Kane County grand jury indicted Grant in February 2015 on charges he used a pipe to hit his sons during a time frame listed as October to November 2014. He was also accused of exposing himself to a minor under the age of 17 in 2013. In exchange for his guilty plea, Grant was sentenced to 30 months probation, 50 community service hours, fines and costs, and to undergo a sex offender evaluation.

Grant also was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors or any interaction with his children. He is also now listed on the state’s violent offender against youth registry.

Grant appeared in court Friday, where a new hearing date was scheduled for February. Prosecutors have not yet filed a response to Grant’s request.
