A man who was shot during an apparent drug deal last year in Aurora is now facing his own gun-related charges stemming from the incident, Aurora police said.
Darius Harris, 22, of Calumet Park, has been charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following an investigation into a Nov. 26 shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Hill Avenue.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said that around 3:30 p.m. that day, Harris met up with Gheroncia Suggs, 20, in the parking lot of Primo’s Food Mart for what police said was to be a drug deal.
During the transaction, which was captured on video surveillance, Harris and Suggs both appear to be armed, Ferrelli said.
According to police, the video depicts the two men getting into a verbal altercation. Then, Harris entered Suggs’ vehicle and attempted to drive away, police said.
At that point, police said Suggs fired several shots in Harris’ direction. One of those shots hit Harris in the leg, Ferrelli said.
Police said Harris is seen on the video getting out of Suggs’ vehicle and running westbound through several yards, with a bullet still lodged in his leg, Ferrelli said.
The video then shows Suggs getting inside his own vehicle and driving away, police said.
In December, following their investigation into the shooting, police arrested Suggs and he was charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Harris was charged with his offenses on Jan. 1 and picked up without incident, police said.
