The Ravens will wear gold pants for Sunday’s showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The pants, announced on Twitter shortly after players began coming out for warmups, appear more mustard-colored than orange, and don’t exactly go with the purple jerseys.
They do, however, have purple and black striping down the sides, so there’s some continuity with the rest of the look.
There’s no official word for why exactly they are wearing the pants, but the purple, even if it doesn’t match, makes sense. Wear white jerseys with the gold pants, and you’re the Washington Redskins. Wear black jerseys with them, and you’re the New Orleans Saints or, even worse, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Either way, this will be a look distinctive to Baltimore from here on out. I’m not sure this will be easily replicated.
The Ravens often wear an all-black ensemble for prime time games — but the Dec. 27 Sunday night gametime with the Steelers was flexed in favor of a daytime kickoff.
Generally, the team has never strayed from white, purple and black in its color scheme.
The Ravens (4-9) host the Chiefs (8-5) at 1 p.m. Then we’ll know whether to blame or thank the pants.
